I'm selling my computer and want to wipe the hard drive. I was going to boot it as an external drive by mounting it from my powerbook, and erase the HD using disk utility. Will this also erase the OS? do i NEED the OS Install disk to make this work? THanks.

You're selling the computer without the installation DVDs?

You could delete everything you don't want to have seen and then securely empty the trash.

Finder > Trash > Finder Preferences (Command + ,) > Advanced > Empty Trash Securely.

Then a "Empty Securely" button appears in the trash window.
I think the data will be overwritten with ones and zeros.
