New to FCE. Captured video from a mini-DV tape camcorder (non HD). Did simple cuts, no effects or transitions. Video is about 10min long. When I export to Quick Time it looks fine, but the file is too large (570mb) to upload to Youtube or Vimeo. If I compress to Mpeg-4, the quality is horrible, blurry, artifacts.

I'd really appreciate your help!

Hi,
I tried mp4, H.264, data rate increase from 256 to 1024. . the original DV format is 720-480. the closest option I found was 756 x something.

still looks terrible. not sure why. on a PC, I've used Sony MovieStudio which provides mp2 conversion. looks just fine.

any other suggestions ?

640x480, 29.97p, 1400Kbps, multipass, should look decent. Unless it's for a mobile device, you might as well check the "frame reordering" box too.

thanks for the tips. my ~ 7min video looks good on my computer. the file is 160mb. I'll see if I can uploaded it to youtube or vimeo , and how it looks there.
