Long story short, I have a Lacie 5big Thunderbolt RAID that won't power on. The power supply seems to be working (light is still on), but the Lacie unit does not mount, and none of the lights, front or back, power on. iMac does not see the drive at all. Tried swapping the cables already.
I think rather than disk failure, the controller card or some other internal component has died.
Can't get response from Lacie support.
So my question is: If I bought another Lacie enclosure, what is the likelihood I'd be able to recover the files? Do you think the symptoms described above could still indicate disk failure? Or do you agree it's probably the enclosure? Also, my unit is the original Thunderbolt v1.0. The only models available right now are Thunderbolt 2. Will this cause any issue as far as recognizing my drives? Could I buy the cheaper 5big Network 2 enclosure and expect it to read my original drives? Thanks in advance.
