I inadvertantly deleted my downloads folder in my dock. I've had this problem in the past and was able to get it back - but this time I must have done something differently, because the Download folder now has a huge "?" - question mark - superimposed over the folder.

I've tried dragging the download folder from Finder, but that didn't work.

When I right click on it to try to go to "Options", nothing happens.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix it?

What happens, if you drag the questionmarked folder from the Dock and your Downloads folder onto the Dock?
Is your Downloads folder still existing inside your Home folder?

You have to drag from the folder in Finder to the dock, not from the sidebar.

Drag and drop like he said above, and always remember, you can accomplish just about anything you want on a Mac with drag and drop.

Perfect - thanks everyone!

The only thing I didn't try previously was to trash the current download folder and then drag the Downloads folder from Finder into the Dock - DUH!

Everything's fine now!

Thanks!

Getting the download folder back to its original spot

I had the same problem but once the folder was back it was difficult to find the most recent downloads in the folder. Searched and searched until I found this post from Kristy Ellington:

"To find your recent downloads, open the Finder and look for "Downloads" under the Places heading. Then, click the icon and drag it onto your dock. If clicking the folder once brings up a crazy, alphabetized list of every file you've ever downloaded (this is what happened to me), control+click on the folder and select "Sort by Date Added." Then control+click again and select "View content as fan" to reset the recent downloads to their original settings."

Thanks to the folks at GeekSugar for the answer! Since it stumped me I thought I would repost and share with others. http://www.geeksugar.com/How-Put-Recent-Downloads-Folder-Back-Dock-10750875
