I have a 1ghz g4 with a matshita dvd-r uj-815 that won't read a damn thing anymore and needs to be replaced. Is there an upgrade or just a replacement that I can do myself and where is a good site to shop through? Thanks!

Personally I would just get an external writer, I use one with my iMac as the internal one stopped reading anything I'd burned myself and is slow and noisy anyway. I have a Pioneer DVD RW in a firewire case (Oxford chipset and internal PSU); it works brilliantly, is easy to upgrade, and works better than the internal one ever did.

Have a look at http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/drivedb/search.drivedb.lasso
for drive compatibility.
