This is a machine that has been unused for a bit and preparing to give to a friend so want it wiped clean. Have the original install discs. The issue is that it is password protected and the owner can't remember the password. Anyway around this? Thanks in advance.

If you have the install disks then you can probably do a clean install unless the owner set the firmware password. Power on the computer and wait for the login screen to come up. Insert the install disk, reboot the computer while holding down the C key. This should boot to the installer disk. Now all you need to do is erase the hard drive from Disk Utility within the installer and reinstall.

That worked a charm. Thanks very much for your help.
