I need a travel charger and a powerbank for MacBook Pro 2020 13 inch 10th Gen i5. I travel between two countries every year or so for study and holiday.
I need surge protection for the travel charger and preferably 60+W output for PD on both the travel charger and the powerbank.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Does Apple power adapter/brick have a built-in surge protector?
I'm considering between getting a non-Apple travel charger or an extra Apple power adapter since Apple's comes with a detachable plug and I already have Apple World Adapter Kit. However if Apple's power adapter doesn't come with a built-in surge protector then it is out of the question. At home I use Apple Power Adapter which is plugged in to a power strip with a surge protector, but for travelling purpose I prefer not to carry a power strip.
2. Is 45W PD good enough to power MacBook Pro 2020 with the above specification? I'm somewhat torn between Anker and RAVPower products based on my comments below.
I've narrowed down my choices to the following items:
Travel Charger
RAVPower USB C Charger 61W GaN PD3.0 — https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B083JB6BGL/
Pros — 61W Max PD output, built-in safeguards.
Cons — Non-interchangeable plug so I need to bring a separate international power adapter.
Anker USB C Charger, 65W 4 Port PIQ 3.0 GaN Fast Charger Adapter — https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZGHB8SM/
Pros — desktop style, built-in safeguards, detachable power cord so more convenient to use and that means I can buy different types of power cords for the different countries I'm living in.
Cons — 45W Max PD output
Powerbank
RAVPower Portable Charger 20000mAh 60W PD — https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B083J2YKRL/
Pros — 60W Max PD output
Cons — 30W Max PD input, lower capacity compared to Anker
Anker Power Bank, PowerCore+ 26800 PD 45W with 60W PD Charger — https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07YKGQHG3
Pros — Higher capacity compared to RAVPower
Cons — 45W Max PD output.
If anyone has experience using any of these products with MacBook Pro 2020 13 in, I'd like to hear it. Also if anyone have other product suggestions, I'd be open to it
Thanks!
