I did the boneheaded thing of accidentally deleting some RAW files (NEF) and had to recover the files with some software that was able to successfully recover the deleted photos.

The NEF files were recovered as .TIF files. I'm not sure what that file type is, how I use it and if the TIF fie format lost some of the information that is kept in the NEF file. Do I need to convert the files from .TIF back to .NEF ?

Thanks for any help.

Joe.

It turns out all I needed to do was rename the files from .TIF to .NEF

Go figure.

Anyway problem solved. Maybe someone else will find this useful.
