iPad nervous about jb' my ipad 2

hi guys

I have jailbroken my iphone5 with no issues but my ipad 2 is currently on an older jailbreak - i guess the concern i have is do i have to reintstall everything again once jailbroken?
i had to go through a lot of hurdles to get my sky go app working on a jail broken device and a few other bits - basically i want to know if updating the jailbreak saves any cydia downloads that i already have on there? much like itunes can
