Have updated from the beta seed to 10.9.3 no problems. While doing the first Time Machine backup - 10.87 GB worth- was watching Activity Monitor and noticed that netbiosd was doing a lot of talking on wifi. Netbiosd is a child process of launchd. Did a search online as well as here and found that netbiosd is primarily used for shares between Windows and OSX machines over the network. Is there any way to either 1) disable it or 2) block traffic to netbiosd with the firewall? Additionally since I am not on a LAN where sharing with Windows is needed, might there be any other implication of doing away with netbiosd? I seem to remember a few years ago a lot of possible security issues with netbios on Windows- I do not like any process running that is not needed.
