Earth (for now)

Netflix 4K requires the T2 chip, which means that for the non-Pro iMac, only the latest 2020 model is supported.

2019 Mac Pro
2017 iMac Pro
2020 iMac
2018 Mac mini
2018 MacBook Pro
2018 MacBook Air

iTunes appears to have similar restrictions.

However for iTunes, it’s only 1080p on the laptops, and 1080p on the Mac mini.

How does the Mac mini support hdr without a proper GPU? I have one via hdmi cord to a 4k tv and it definitely does not do HDR

Intel UHD graphics fully supports HDR, and yes Intel UHD even supports 4K HDR.

Ok that’s a rewrite of history then because it’s always been the case that hdr was not supported? And on my machine it doesn’t work

4K HDR has been supported on Intel UHD Graphics for many years now. Its implementation on the Mac is a completely different story though.

For example, you can play back 4K HDR in Netflix just fine on Kaby Lake machines from 2017 in Windows. However, that DRM support is not good enough for Macs. To do it on an iMac, Netflix and iTunes require a 2020 model with T2.

Outside of Macs, T2 doesn't exist of course.

I don't get it. We see in the list the Mac mini 2018 but not the iMac 2019. How is that possible?

iMac 2019 doesn't have T2 of course.
I thought that Mac mini 2018 does not have it either but I was wrong. It seems that iMac 2019 is the only recent Mac without the T2 chip.
