Netflix today announced a new feature that will see the streaming service offering a series of top 10 lists that highlight the most popular content on the platform.

There will be an overall top 10 list, a list for the top 10 most popular TV shows, and a list for the top 10 most popular movies. The latter two lists will be visible when visiting the TV show and movie tabs, respectively.

The top 10 lists will be specific to each country where Netflix is available, and the lists will be updated every day. Netflix says that the positioning of the list will vary "depending on how relevant the shows and films are to you."

Shows and films that are added to Netflix's top 10 lists will have a "Top 10" badge wherever they're located in the Netflix interface, so popular content will be visible whether people are browsing by genre, searching for specific shows, or selecting content from a personal list.

Netflix has been testing top 10 lists in Mexico and the UK over the course of the last six months, and is now ready to roll them out worldwide.

Huh? My Netflix has had this for like a year. Did we get something first in the UK for once?!

The shows on the list may or may not match my taste, but either way I'll find it helpful to know what's most popular because those are shows that other people around the office watercooler (or at my online hangouts) are likely to be talking about.

Isn't this the same as "Recently Trending" or something? Beside, what most people like are not what I like. Just give me the option to remove categories I am not interesting in like "Shows with strong female actors", "Shows with fashionable men". Like REALLY???

I swear it's just going to be a list of whichever new Netflix Original they have. Free advertising to entice their viewers to watch their questionable content.

I am sure the algorithm is done in such a way you would always see a Netflix original as the top 10 while other movies or TV Shows are hidden. Netflix is like a giant library you just keep on scrolling and scrolling until you finally find something but to tired to watch because the time it took to find it. Sad to say Netflix use to be something but they are really not doing so well.
