i currently have a netgear wireless n as my main router on one side of the house, attached via 100ft ethernet on the otherside of the house is an airport extreme base station. i currently have them setup as 2 different networks with 2 different SSID's. I know if i was using 2 apple routers i would be able to use them with the same SSID and have one big network. Anyone know of anyway to setup one big network using one SSID? Im pretty sure i would get an error if i just duplicated settings and SSID's on both routers. Thanks

same SSID and security settings but different channels, and you should be fine.
you'll need to pay attention when doing the security, as the terminology can vary from different manufacturers, so sometimes the words may not match for the same setting.

Set the channels to specific channels versus leaving them both on auto select channel
