Netgear DG834G configuration problems

Can anyone help?

Been trying to connect shiny new Imac to this modem router tonight with increasing frustration and no success.

I follow everything in the setup instructions and it's all going according to plan until I get to the bit where I open my web browser, type in 192.168.0.1 and access the setup wizard screen. When I ask it to detect the connection it merely says 'wizard was unable to establish a connection'.

I've tried setting it up manually but it still won't connect.

Has anyone else had problems configuring this modem?

Is it a brand new router? Or is it connected to another computer? I have this router and had some hiccups getting it to work with my Macbook but it works now.

No it's a brand new router, out of the box. Bought it with the new imac so am trying to set them both up from scratch.

Is there a particular order you should switch everything on, first time you do?
