Netgear n150 wireless USB adapter issue

I have an airport extreme base station that works perfectly with all my devices.
However I'm trying to make my girlfriends desktop wireless using a netgear USB wireless adapter, and the installation gets stuck at DETECTING ADAPTER. Can anyone help me?

Figured out it was the anti virus software that wasn't allowing it.
