I recently upgraded my Comcast service from Blast to Gigabit. I'm using a Netgear Nighthawk X4S modem/router. Huge difference in speed!!! I'm seeing just over 900 Mbps with a wired connection on my iMac. Wifi speeds with the Nethawk are usually in the 250-425 range. The highest I've see from the Time Capsule with this new setup is 297.

I spoke with someone at Apple about setting up the Time Capsule. The person I spoke with said I should disable the Nighthawk's router so I can just use the TC. They said it might not do backups if it's not setup that way. I had a long pause after I heard that. I guess I want the best of both worlds. I upgraded my service to have a very fast internet connection (especially Wifi). It's still going to be fast through the TC but not as fast as it could be.

I really need to backup my iMac incase something happens. I don't know what to do. My suggestions?

Thanks!

You can set the Time Capsule in bridge mode, turn off the Wi-Fi and that will essentially convert it to a nice switch. You will still be able to backup to it since it'll be available on the network. Make sure you set the Time Capsule to request an IP from your Nighthawk and you're good to go. The rest is handled by Bonjour and your Macs will find it automatically.
