NNW is now syncing with Google Reader, which is nice (I can finally get rid of the iPhone app), however the desktop app now has a very annoying ad in the bottom left corner that obstructs the view of your feeds. If this remains, I'd be interested in finding a different desktop reader. What other good readers are out there that sync with Google Reader?

what do you mean it is "now" syncing with google reader? did it get an update?

They did just update it, and they are doing away with NewsGator syncing as of August 31. Syncing with Google Reader instead is a welcome update, but the ad in the updated app is awful.

I don't know how to feel about this. I moved from Google Reader to NetNewsWire once it went free. I don't even save the web articles to NewsGator. I use an AppleScript to save to Instapaper. Will there still be an iPhone app or will we use the Google mobile app?

Now I almost feel like there's no need for the desktop client.

This is great news for me b/c I really like the NNW UI, and having it work with Google is really nice. I found the Newsgator web interface to be dreadfully slow, and Feed Demon on the PC sucks, too. Newsgator on the Mac side to sync w/ the Google Reader web app on the PC side means, for me, that Google Reader has 2/3 of their bases covered. Now, a really nice iPhone app for Google Reader (I still haven't found one I liked, included Feeds and Byline) is all I need to be a happy RSSer.

The iPhone app will be updated, but now that it supports Google syncing, we don't have to use the NNW iPhone app. This is the only reason I'm happy with Google syncing.

Does anyone else find the large ad in the bottom left corner to be very annoying, or am I bring too critical? Hopefully there will be a paid ad free version.

Ads suck

Give the option to donate $$ or something to get an add free version. Seriously I'm tired of selling my "soul" for free software.

Can you post a screenshot of this "ad"? I've thought about d/l the Beta, but not if the ad stands out like a huge zit!

Does Google Reader sync both ways like Newsgator? I have been testing this out with NNW and an RSS reader for the iPhone that syncs with Google, and the syncing seems to be awful. If I read something on NNW and then go to Google Reader on the web, it's not in sync. The same happens with the iPhone app. Of course, if I read something on NNW it doesn't show up as read on the iPhone app. In short, everything is way out of sync.

EDIT: I think this might be because the iPhone app I was testing it with doesn't support 2 way syncing.

If you can picture where the album art can be displayed in the bottom left corner of iTunes, that's where the ad is at in NNW, but it can't be hidden. It's also probably slightly larger than album art in iTunes.

Here is the image showing the ads.

They removed the adds from the latest beta.

Looks like at some point the ads will come back, but by then a paid version without ads will be available.

Whats the best iPhone app for google reader... I cant seem to find one I like...

The Google Reader mobile website is actually quite good. I just put the bookmark on Home so I can easily access it, use it like an app that way. Although I notice there's sometimes a redirect issue with Google, clicking on the link to original article doesn't success every time, it would sometimes just open new page and show error.

I too just switched to Google Reader this weekend after hearing the news and brought the Byline app for the iPhone. I'm not dealing with ads. I've been looking for a desktop client and started using Helvetireader. For some reason I can't get images though.

Has anybody tried out Fever? I've been hearing a lot about it and was wondering if it was as good as advertised.

I agonized over choosing an iPhone app that did two-way syncing with Google Reader. I ended up buying Feeds and I've been happy with it do far. I would have tried Byline, but I don't like having all my feeds dumped into one folder.
