Can someone tell me why the internet is connected to these super high port numbers on my mac? Shouldn't it be connected to port 80 on my end?

Something also keeps happening where after I click on some websites a few times the pages will stop loading and I am unable to make any new connections and have to close safari out and start over.

I'm not sure but pick up a copy of little snitch and that will tell you all what the connections are.

Nope.
Your webbrowser connects from a random port on your side to port 80 on the
webserver. What your are seeing are established connections by your browser.

IANA defines the dynamic and/or private ports range from 49152 through 65535.
