Network Cable - Is there a minimal length?

I need to have a 'network cable' to link my 'ADSL modem' and my 'TimeCapsule'.

Question: The length of 'network cable' could be 20 centimeters?

I know long 'network cable' (more than 80 meters) could impact the performance. But about 'minimum' length?

The shortest I've seen is 1ft. But, to answer you question, no there shouldn't be a negative impact from a shorter length.
