Network Connection (lid closed)

Hello-
So I am fairly new to the Mac world, although I grew up on first generation Apple IIe's, my life moved with windows. Now I am back to a mac. I have the MacBook and was curious to find out if there is anyway to set this machine up so that I do not lose my network connection when the lid is closed?

No, when you close the lid, the laptop goes into sleep mode which is a power saving mode where power is turned off to pretty much everything except the RAM
