Good day all,

I've got a real puzzler here that I've spent entirely too much time on but now cannot let it beat me. Here goes:

On my iMac, I cannot update the icon for one SMB share on my home server. I have tried and tried, and it just will not update.

Share smb://server/My Book will not update the stinking icon
Share smb://server/TiVo updated just fine, without a hitch
These are both SMB NTFS shares. The only difference (but the iMac should not see this) is that the TiVo share is nested within the My Book drive/share, but again, the iMac should not see that

I thought maybe it was because My Book had a space, so I created a share mybook, and removed My Book. Still will not update. Created yet another new share named external, still will not update

The .VolumeIcon.icns is being written and/or updated at the time I am trying to change the icon. The file is valid; if I rename it to something not hidden, it appears as a proper icon file.
I am authenticating with NTLM credentials that have full control to both the share and the files within the share

I don't think it's a problem on the server, as I hopped on my G5 and updated the icon without a hitch

All along I've tried deleting the .DS_store and .VolumeIcon.icns files, with no help at all

I've tried different icon files, no change. The icon I'm trying to use changes on anything else, but not this 1 single share.

I've deleted both Finder.plist preferences and smb.conf, and STILL will not frigging update!!

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks
