network iPad and iMac through airport card or bluetooth

I'm trying to sync FileMaker Go between my iPad and iMac in a place that has no wireless network. The iPad needs to access the database stored on the iMac and connecting via the USB kills the functionality of allowing a client to walk around with the iPad to enter their data.

Is there a way to wireless connect them either through the iMac's Airport Card or Bluetooth?

Click on the wireless icon at the top right corner of the screen.
2nd from the bottom is "Create Network" and follow the steps
