My house has quite an intricate network setup going. It was setup by someone else, and I get to play tech support for the whole thing and fix things if they go wrong. We have a fully wired (ethernet) house which our g5 and printer connect to, or whenever we need to transfer big files. Our laptops (of which there are 5 o_0) all connect wirelessly to an AirPort Extreme (recently installed by me).

Now, heres where the fun begins.

We have a server running Red Hat that has been set as the primary DNS server. On that server all the family members have an account that we can backup or store things in between transfers.

Our internet connection (cable modem) is distributed by a Netgear RP614v2. It has been set up to act as the DCHP server, distributing IP addresses to all attached devices. It also tells which DNS servers (our server and some other that I don't know, I didn't set it up) to use.

The AirPort Extreme, which I just set up, is currently password protecting our wireless connection, but not distributing IP addresses or anything.

Here's my problems

1) My computer especially seems to take forever to obtain an IP address wirelessly. The connection is also very slow. The ethernet connection is totally fine.

2) I've just obtained a copy of Remote Desktop 3. On opening it, it immediately freezes before I can do anything. My workaround has been to not have it remember the password. If I do that, I can use it on my G5, but I cannot locate any computers, be they on an ethernet connection or via airport. iStumbler can find the other computers easy enough, and iTunes libraries find each other, but not RD3.
EDIT: RD3 seems to only get past freeze @ start up intermittently, and won't locate any computers on the network

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Dreil
