I normally like to use Ethernet to connect iMac to network. I need to enable WiFi for various Apple services to work - unlock with watch etc. If I have both Ethernet and WiFI it works fine most of the time. After a bit I noticed either the name changed or an alert to say the name was in use and it was renamed to "Andrew's iMac (2)" then "...(3)" and so on. Since running WiFi only this has not happened.
I am assuming SMB is binding to both WiFi and Ethernet and using both rather than binding to them in connection priority. Something similar can happen on Linux and Raspberry PI OS but it can be fixed on Samba by binding to only a select interface.
Has anyone else seen this and is there a workaround or fix? Needless to say Apple support have looked numerous times and denied there is an issue ... sigh.
