Hey guys,

I didn't know what forum to post this in, so it's going here. You guys are the most computer savvy people of all the forums I frequent, so it's probably best to post this here.

Here is the setup:

Cable from wall--> modem ---> USRobotics 8054 802.11g router.

The router is setup to filter the MAC addresses so only myself and my two roommates can access it.

Sometimes the router will completely drop a signal, and I will manually have to reconnect to access anything. I get full reception when everything is going fine.

Another problem, is that sometimes web browsing slows to a crawl -- but AIM and IRC work fine... I just can't browse any websites. This generally happens once every half hour or so. Whenever it does happen, I have to reboot/restart the router and all is fine again.

Is this a problem with my router? All the settings are default on it, save for the MAC filtering. Could one of the wireless cards in range be pulling the network down? Would phone interference cause this?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, or any suggestions on new routers to get would be welcomed.

The router is about 3 years old, and I'm not sure if it could be the problem. The signal is strong, and I get great transfer rates... it just seems to be a problem with loading web pages.

I have emailed my ISP (Time Warner) with the problem, but I doubt they will do much.

Thanks!

Edit: WOW... didn't see the Mac Basics and Help forum... mods, please move this to that forum =)
