Network problems

Please help!
My MacBook Pro, 2008 vintage, running 10.6.8 does not recognize my TPLink modem/router. It "sees" my neighbor's network running on channel 3. My iPads and my printer have no problem and see and run the network.

The MacBook Pro did see the router when I first linked up, but thereafter nul.

I searched Google, but it seems that the only system having similar problems is from Lion onwards.

Any ideas?
