Network storage and PC's not showing up

When I look in the finder, it's hit or miss whether my networked devices will be showing. I could open the finder, see the devices, wait 10 minutes, reopen the finder and the devices are all gone.

Anyone else have this issue or know a fix?

Unfortunately no solution that I've found

Unfortunately I do not have a solution; I myself have wasted many hours trying to network OSX with Windows machines ever since 10.5.0. There was never a problem networking with MacOS X 10.4 but since 10.5 I have _maybe_ successfully connected from my Mac to a Windows share 3 times. I am currently on 10.6.8 and used every point update in between and on two different Macintoshes.

I can even connect successfully from a Windows guest running within Parallels Desktop For Mac to a physical Windows PC, but the Mac itself refuses to acknowledge either of them is on the network.

Dropbox makes it easy to sync a folder or two. Or a NAS like Synologys works great with OSx & Windows.
