I have searched many threads on this forum and also on the web in general. I have Yosemite 10.10.5 installed on my Mac Mini (Server edition Mid 2011).

all of a sudden when access the network preferences, it just hangs. I can access all the other configs in System Preferences apart from Network. Has anyone else had this issue? It’s annoying as it also affects my MBP which I don’t use much now as I no longer work away from home. Network connectivity is fine, just can’t make any changes to my network.

Would upgrading to El Capitan solve it? Or would I be better installing the Yosemite ‘server’ app? Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

I just solved a somewhat similar problem, in my case it was "iCloud" in System Preferences that was hanging.
I finally gave up trying to trouble-shoot the issue and downloaded the Yosemite 10.1.0.5 combo update and just reinstalled the update.
Fixed my problem and did not change anything else.
