Maybe I don't use my phone enough, but I have had it for almost 2 months now with only 1 restore....

Here is my usage, only in the MBs:

I tether my iPhone due to my building's cable wiring being under renovation. Last month I used 2.3GB total according to the AT&T web site, 933MB of which appears to have been used "legitimately" by my iPhone according to the Settings. And I've restored a bunch of times.

I read somewhere that AT&T doesn't pay heed until you cross over 5GB, but who knows really. If they terminate my contract I can still sell this phone and head for duller but more reliable pastures.

I've had my phone since January and still haven't reached a GB.

I find it hard to believe that At&t would even care though... the data plan is unlimited. (although 5GB is massive)

I used 4GB of data my first month.

ditto, only because I left my Tversity server on the default settings, which streamed everything at 96k. not to mention the constant playing with it for the first month.

Streaming at 96k/second * 60 seconds/ minute * 60 minutes/hour * 24 hours/day * 30 days/month is still only a gig and change.

I don't believe 5 gigs is possible without tethering and downloading 'teh pr0n'

29 MB out
355 MB in

That's from July to now.

I use wifi at home, though, which isn't counted. I'd guess that these cellular data numbers are 25% of my web use, so my total numbers for all data for 2 months is probably something like 120 MB out and 1.2 GB in.

On my 3G since I upgraded on July 11th...

317 MB Sent
2.3 GB Received

I've used Netshare a bit testing it as a backup to my laptop connect card.

Your calculations are off by a factor of 30.

24 hours of usage at 96k/sec (12KB/sec) is 1GB / day or roughly 42MB/hour.

Still high usage mind you but 4GB is possible if you forget to close the app or something ... a few times ... in a month.

Now if his music was at 96KB (Which I doubt) then the usage would jump up to 8GB/day

I see most of you are on Edge and not 3G i'm guessing this is by choice.. how much does this actually improve your battery life and when do you use 3G mostly..?

Not by choice, no 3G coverage where I work. :[

I get great coverage in town though. :]

4 gigs of Pandora in a month? Seems rather high ....

Pandora, push E-Mail, web browsing, etc.

I live in NYC and take the 7 train and buses a lot, so there's lots of dwell time to just use my iPhone and its data extensively.

I've had mine for a little over a month and I've sent 12.4 MB and received 223 MB. Nothing big for me.

so easiest way to tether with the iphone 3g jailbroken?

Also, when doing those steps, do you have to do them all each time you want to connect to the laptop or just the first time?

You can use streaming porn sites to accomplish this.

I've only used about 200 megs in a month and a bit. Kind of sad. Especially since most of the time I'm in Wi-Fi. I've probably only used like 30MB of 3G/Edge data. On the other hand, I've started to use my phone as an iPod via Simplify Media a lot more (what a Godsend, by the way), so that might jack up my data usage.
