Hi folks. Out of curiosity, how many of you use a plain old AFP networked HD on a "server" (in my case a headless Mac Mini) to backup your MacBooks and other computers wirelessly? I'm not saying this is something new and exciting, but I've been running into a lot of other forum posts out there (on other sites mainly) where people either can't figure out how to do this or don't know about it and think they have to buy a TimeCapsule.
In my case I backup all my Mac's both wired and wireless to the AFP/SMB networked HD on my Mac Mini. It also servers to backup my PC's and as a storage area for my iTunes shared content.
Now...why would Apple market a separate device for this (TimeCapsule)? Obviously for the cash, right? But you've been able to do this since the AppleTalk and earlier days. Just share a hard drive and drag/drop your contents over. These days Time Machine automates the file copying, but it is still the same concept.
