I'm having a recent issue with my network, after reconstructing a room, and installing in-wall ethernet drops. I have a multitude of drops, and all but one of them works perfectly. All but one are able to connect to the net, and gain an IP address from the DHCP server.

I've noticed that the one by my computer is unable to attain an IP address from the DHCP server. There are a series of 3 wires that all share the same issue. When installing them, I was careful to ensure I didn't damage them in any way. It's odd though. When they're connected to my standard 16-port switch, they don't attain an IP address, and self-assign a 169.x.x.x number. When they're connected to my Airport Extreme, they assign the correct IP addresses and work fine.

So, here's the untimate question. What's up with this network? Any ideas? Could it be that I've accidentally wired the network wires to the computer to be cross-over, causing the cheapo switch to not work, and the Apple router (which should detect the cross-over and work anyways)? If worse comes to worse, I'll just try to re-terminate the ports in the wall. They're all wired to the same spec, so I'm dumbfounded!

Thanks for the help!
