Networking issues (error code 36)

Im getting an error code 36 when i try to copy files from my pc to my new mac over a cross-over cable. Most files transfer just fine but there are a couple of stubborn ones. I also get a similar error when i copy mp3s off a cd burned on a pc. Im new to the mac sooo any help will be appreciated. thanks
 
does anyone know where i might be able to find some help for my problem. i have checked the files on my pc and they are fine so it must be a communication problem between the mac and pc. thanks
