Hello world. I looked through macrumors [as well as google] for about 40 minutes and could not find a single issue similar to mine. I apologize in advance if this is actually a repeat post.
Part of the issue is I don't really know how to properly phrase what I'm experiencing. I've made a video showing both a successful file transfer, and then a failed one. The failure usually occurs with larger files.

Basically I'm having issues with my file sharing. I have no idea why sometimes the files fail to copy. Not only that, but when the files fail to copy, the finder window actually goes blank [as if the networked drive dismounted]. I'm using ethernet cables..and even if I wasn't, the AirPort is like 4 inches from all the computers invovled. I'm copying from OSX 10.6.7 on a 2008 MacBook Pro to a 2008 Dell XPS 720 with Windows 7 Ultimate through an AirPort Extreme. I believe things are configured correctly [in terms of firewalls and permissions] as copying smaller files/files into the test folder work without a flaw. I can pull files from the Mac using the Windows machine without incident. Seeing as the Dell is only hooked into my tv however, I'd really prefer to be able to copy files via the Mac onto the Dell. This weird vanishing thing occurs with any combination of network connections [Dell wifi/Mac ethernet, Dell ethernet/Mac wifi, both wifi or both ethernet]
I also noticed that if I use this ancient Netgear switch I have, rather than the AirPort, the files transfer successfully. The switch doesn't have gigabit ethernet, so I really prefer the AirPort's speed. And seeing as it has three ports, I figure I should try to use it, rather than buy an unnecessary switch.
Any suggestions/ideas would be great, as I have absolutely no idea what could cause this.
Thanks guys!
