I am setting up a new wireless network and have a questions.

I am using a D-link dir 628 router and I have dsl ......I have a macbook and an older Hp laptop....

the hp is going to be wired to the router and cable modem and the mac will be wireless......the hp is only used for email checking so it will sit on the desk...........when first setting up the d=link should i wire it directly to the mac and configure it that way or does it have to be set up through the hp because that laptop is going to be the one always wired to the d-link and cable router??

Configuration of the router is done via Ethernet and the web interface of the router. You can use either the HP or the Mac to do so. Then you create a wireless LAN, configure it appropriately and can then connect your Mac via Airport to the router.

Also you might want to password protect your wireless network, we dont need to here, as we dont have close neighbours. But you would be surprised how far your signal goes, just walk up the street with your MacBook.
