Yes I know - but all the same, after having been forced to install El Capital after a hard drive failure I have a situation where the El Capitan can wirelessly see the Vista laptop and access its files, but the Vista refuses to log me into the El Capitan Mac, or even accept any form of its identity I enter, and will not say which is wrong - password or identiity. Until the failure of the previous Mac hard drive, which had OS X 6.8, this was not a problem and there wasn't even a visible protocol gateway when I accessed the network. Is there a way round this?

Many thanks
