Networking with XP

Before you shoot me I have read the guides available but I just can't make heads or tails of it

I'm running Leopard and I've a PC running XP Home. The Mac is connected to a router, the PC is connected to the router too and of course the router is connected to the internet.

All I want to do is copy my documents from my PC to my new Mac, because putting it all on an iPod and transfering it over is slow.

I just don't get all the Networking etc. I wonder if any of you can help me.
