So I was reading through this post at Six Colors; https://sixcolors.com/post/2021/09/the-iphone-13-an-upgraders-guide/ and something hit me. Apple routinely markets the increased power of the Neural Engine, but what does it do for the user other than being able to look for child porn quicker?

Aren’t most “neural tasks” run in the background with the phone locked, which lets be honest is probably 90% of a phones life. Is it really a valid talking point whether a meeting suggestion or new contact is found seconds sooner? Please enlighten me.

Apparently it does a lot considering the iPhone X doesn't get some of the features in iOS15 because it neural engine isn't up to it.

Thanks, I don't remember that article. I probably skipped it because at the time I had no interest upgrading my XS. But now that I have read it can't but help laughing at, "New animated backgrounds in the Weather app that more accurately represent the sun position, clouds, and precipitation." ?

I know! I have an X and it seems it should handle at least some of these features. I'm sure Apple has there reasons to limit anything under an A12..

The wife has a X. T-Mobile is giving her $800 for a new phone. I can’t turn that down for a 4 year old phone. I got the same for a XS. These aren’t earth shattering updates as far as I’m concerned, but when I can replace 2 phones for $300 (I think is what it came out to) how do you say no? Then we got $200 on her old 6 which my son was using. It wouldn’t hold a charge for 48 hours and he never uses it. ?

I've been toying with idea of getting a 13 ProMax but I had my battery in my X replaced by Apple about a month ago and it's working extremely well on iOS15. Even if I decide to get a new phone, the X will stay as a backup device..
