Anyone else noticing a problem like this? The one in the middle/bottom is what originally caught my eye, but there's actually quite a few noticable areas around the edges. I bumped up the contrast a tad in photoshop to make it clearer.

No, it's not just dirty :(

Completely normal. Not just Macbook Air, I've seen the same thing happen on the display of VAIO X 11" thin laptop too.

ack. i guess that's a freudian slip since i'm gonna make them take it bacbook ;)

Completely normal, meaning, I should just live with it since I couldn't reasonably expect a replacement to be much better?

While there is going to be some amount of that on TN panels - yours is abnormally bad. Return it. I lived with a screen like that for 4 years because I didn't want to hassle with it.. I should have as it pissed me off every day

edit - I just realized you upped the contrast.. that's cheating. Post the original image. :)

I'd still be surprised if it wasn't something that needed a return.

Not sure what it is with apple and their sourced screens lately, in the last 4-5 years they have just taken a massive turn for the worse on quality control etc.

okay, here's the original :)

Not horrible obviously, which is why I'm kind of on the fence about exchanging. Just slightly irritating given that I dropped a decent chunk of change on it and my 4yo gateway laptop's screen is perfectly even and cost a third the price :(

What brightness was that set to? Still looks easily bad enough to return, unless it was on something like - 2 bars.

The pattern exhibited on my MBA 13" (LG panel) looks somewhat like yours except it isn't that bad. The bottom left corner of my screen seems a tad darker compared to the bottom right and overall the bottom edge of the screen is a bit darker too. I'm not too concerned about this since i've went to an Apple store over the weekend and checked out two other MBA's and they both have the same problem.
The effect does look more apparent on your screen based on the photo and you might wanna consider returning it for a new one.

brightness was set right in the middle, but it remains noticeable (although less so) even on the brightest setting.

It's always hard to tell from a picture, but it does look very uneven. I'd take it to a store and compare it to a floor model. You might need an exchange.

eh, called applecare and they said they could repair but would rather ship me a new one. gonna do the latter, fingers crossed
