I just picked up my 13" rmbp yesterday and I went ahead and installed fcpx. I then went ahead and edited some 4k video from my camcorder. I was blown away at how cool the 13" rmbp stayed while processing the 4k content! It was mildly warm, but thats it.

Also, the new 13" rmbp can transcode/render 4k with ease! I was able to completely transcode a 3 minute 4k movie in just a couple minutes. The size of the final file was over 9gigs!

This thing is a beast!

Yeah, the 13" rMBP has been really underrated.

People seem to think you need a quad core and 16gigs ram just to even load professional apps...

My local Best Buy is showing them as in-stock, so I'm trying to talk myself into one.

I'm running a cMBP that I bought in June. I upgraded to 8GB just because.

My eyes get mad at me when I go from my 6+ and iPad Air 2 screens to this non retina display.

I'm going to try to talk to a manager to get the Apple Student discount of $100 instead of their $50 discount and of course, the mover's coupon.

Now if I can find someone to buy this cMBP...

Battery life is amazing as well, i got it yesterday at 8pm and I've been using it non stop, and I just plugged it in because battery hit 5%. The 2014 15" rMBP i returned would barely hit 6hr battery life, this new macbook almost doubles that...

I was very tempted by the 13inch they are great looking portable machines. I have no power requirements for the 15 inch but I wanted the bigger screen.

It is nice to hear about someone happy with their purchase though!

Would you mind posting up a screenshot of the "about this Mac" window? Specifically the graphics section. I'm looking at buying the base model next week, but need to know some things :D

Thats odd. I just watched a video review on Youtube last night and the reviewer stated he edited and uploaded the 4k video using the new rMBP. Said it was all good till it came to rendering which took a painful 35 minutes. The video is only like 6-7 minutes long too.

Picked the 256GB version from Best Buy this afternoon. They took the $100 off for educational discount, but my mover's coupon was expired. :(

Time to sell my cMBP. It's on eBay right now.

That's odd. Maybe he got a lemon. Mine is super fast. I was thinking of posting a video of doing it to post on youtube.

Thanks. My mistake, it took 35 minutes to export, not to render. Thats an eternity and thats with the maxed out model. The midrange model the OP has will take even longer. I wouldn't really call that a beast.

You might be thinking export to youtube, in which case that is dependent on your internet connection, not your computers processing ability.

If FCP works like iMovie, think there's a final export step that's pretty slow even on my maxed 2013 rMBP 15" at work.
