Trying to buy a 16" but can't - shipping times are Feb 26 in Asia for any custom model, and March 3 in the US for even the standard model.

Something's afoot.

My guess is new MBPs are coming - maybe the mini LED displays, maybe OLED, or maybe just next gen Intel chips.

[Edited - it's 99% likely this is simply just Chinese New Year! Thanks everyone for letting me know]

You think a new 16" is coming after 2.5 months? Lol.

Please do realize a billion people in the world - outside the US - do have a lengthy holiday season at this time.

That's possible... checked other products, 13" MBP ships normally but customizing also slips to march 3

It could be them simply shutting down operations in China for a while.

MacBook Pro 16 - MAR 3
Macbook Pro 13 - Feb 4 (normal)
MacBook Pro 13 custom - MAR 3
Macbook Air - normal
iPhone (any) - normal

Seems to only affect MacBook Pros.

Maybe ARM processors. Maybe china. ;)

China doesn't take holidays at all lol. See above. MacBook Pro affected, nothing else affected.

It's the Chinese new year (and an extended one this year due to the virus). The country largely shuts down. This idea that 'China does not take holidays at all' is wildly inaccurate.

I just made an account to respond to this comment but this is simply false. It is known that China's production effectively shuts down for several weeks due to Chinese New Year (because yes, they need to rest too). Coronavirus is probably affecting shipping times and delays as well as my 16" BTO ordered on 1/22 has been stuck on "Processing since 1/22/20"

This is interesting. Customized Macbook Air requires only 2-4 days but all Macbook Pros require 3 weeks.

I believe it is due to CNY extended holiday but at the same time was hoping for the refreshed 13" Macbook Pro on March as predicted by some analysts.

They may not be made in the same manufacturing plant

MBA may be made at a plant whose parts & personnel arent as affected by the virus.

Summary - virus panic might well be the cause

Extended holidays... [edited]

Ok I had to Google this and look it up but .... oh well, turns out everyone here is right and Chinese New Year is actually a thing during which factories are officially shut down for 1 week and inofficially for 2-3 weeks.

Unfortunately for me, it makes sense that custom orders would be affected, especially on the MBP with its many many different options. iPhones have much fewer options and MBAs too... they could stockpile these a lot easier.

I was wrong.

Thanks everyone for the information.

Yeah, it’s quite unfortunate :/ my first BTO order was way faster than this second one so the delays seem very real

While I have heard there are considerable delays I ordered a custom MBP 16" (2.4ghz i9, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD) on 14th Feb and received an original estimated arrival date of 9 Mar. However after 4 days of processing my order went to "preparing to ship" today and then to "shipped" in the last few hours. Now my revised arrival date is 22 Feb...this is over two weeks earlier than the original estimated arrival date.

That being said I am in Hong Kong so the distance it has to travel from Shanghai China is relatively short but I have heard quite a few people also being pleasantly surprised like me. I suspect that Apple gives a very conservative estimated arrival date these days as a result of virus and supply chain delays etc.. Of course having said that I have no guarantee that if you order one today that it will arrive soon!! Just wanted to share my experience though.
