Just picked up a 17" iMac with 1x1GB of RAM. I must say, what a beautiful and FAST machine.

I got my 17" PB last month, and I thought that was fast. I am completely blown away by the speed of the iMac.

Also, the quality. No dead pixels, no flaws at all. Flawless BootCamp install (had to).

I am an absolutely elated month-old switcher. One issue though... What do I use to play WMV files aside from Windows Media Player (on the Intel iMac)? Seems VLC isn't universal yet.

All in all, no complaints. I love my Macs.

Great to hear you are enjoying your Mac so much. :) If you ever have any questions, just let us know.

As for playing WMV files, try Flip4Mac - it's free. Otherwise, do a search through the Forums and I'm sure a couple other suggestions will pop up.

i think theres this WMP plugin for quicktime on the microsoft website?

as for your iMac, ur basically torturing me since i cannot afford one  , but congrats. :D enjoy your new computer

Doesn't work on a Intel Mac yet unfortunately. However this:

is a link to the Universal Binary version of VLC. A pre-release but it works well.

I don't have any, I sold them all to pay for my Xbox 360. I've already pre-ordered a PS3 which is going on eBay the second I get home. If i learned anything from the 360 launch, $500 can go a long way.

Popwire apparently has a Universal QuickTime component for playing WMVs. Never tried it, as I don't have an Intel Mac and I just heard of this a day or so ago, but thought it was worth mentioning. It's $49.95 for the full version which allows exporting, but if you can use it for playback only with no limitations free.

flip for mac is the .wmv plugin for quicktime. i use it - no probs. if you register the program you can also convert wmv's to other formats right from quicktime...

edit - didn't realise it didn't work on intel mac's

It is good to aspire to have the better things, but at your age there are other issues to occupy both your time and thoughts. At 15, I felt good enough if I had money to buy an ice cream cone. Be patient ... it will happen for you in due time.

Hey man, I'm 21 and in more debt than I hope I will ever be in again. The iMac I got for my parents and I'll be paying off the PB for a LOOOONG time.

Here's a nickels worth of free advice (always wanted to say that), if you can, stay at home and go to college.

I downloaded the component and installed it.It works great! I've had about 50 really old windows avi files that I couldnt watch with quicktime..
Boot to windows..convert the avi to wmv then open the wmv with quicktime in os x.I even exported the wmv files from quicktime into mp4 files..

I'd recommend the popwire component over flip4mac anytime!

Wait for the MacBook maybe? Can't imagine you being a pro at the age of 15. :p ;)
Although I can't argue with the sweetness of the MacBook Pro. :)
