New 2.53 Ghz 13 inch MBP can't access internet

This evening I bought my long awaited MBP 13 inch I brought it home and passed through the setup and when the registering was over I went on Safari and it says "you are not connected to the internet" then I accessed network diagnostics and it did not work on network diagnostics it says on network status that airport and airport settings are green and the rest are red. I have a 2wire Modem from AT&T and my iPod Touch connects through the wireless network fine.

Well what do you know I made it work I went to system preferences and ta da fixed!

Now I have another problem when I close the lid then open it I have to access system prefs to connect to my wi-fi
