new 21.5 iMac question

Just.....
guessing: Maybe the external card reader needs a driver or software to be read?
Not actually equal, but that happens to me with a PC in the work. I use a external SD adapter to read a 16 GB SD card. With the reader, none. Inserting directly the SD card in the one slot available....voila! Card read/mount/write....In my case, solved with a update of the driver....
