My next system will be a new Mac Book with the 24" monitor, question is, is there an adapter that would allow me to purchase the monitor with the mini display port first and use with my white Mac Book?, kinda spread the $$ out lay for a few months

Doesn't exist. I read somewhere that DVI and MDP give off different signals that can't be converted with an adapter, or something like that.

No im afraid not. I wanted to get that too but looks like settling for a Samsung or Dell 24" monitor will have to suffice. Just think about the money you will save i guess!
