New 27" ACD paired with late '08 MBP. Audio?

So....

I'm aware that the MDP carries audio to the monitor, but will my computer be able to support it (late '08 MBP)?? If not, I don't see any other way to get sound to the monitor via a 1/8" cable (because I don't see any audio-in ports on the monitor). I don't own USB speakers...I want to use the ones built into the monitor.

What do I need to do? (I'm really hoping there's workaround to enable audio on the MDP on my computer)

Oh wait....does it just carry the audio via the USB cable if the computer doesn't support passing audio via the MDP?
