I just bought my wife a used 4s on ebay and it came with ios 5.1 Is there anyway to upgrade to 5.1.1 or 6 so that i can jailbreak this phone?

You cannot update it, unfortunately. Is 5.1 not jailbreakable? (Didn't follow JB too much before iOS 6 so I genuinely do not know.)
from what i have seen from my searching is that 5.1 cannot be jailbroken. I guess ill have to wait for ios 7 to be released and jailbroken
