iPod New 5G feature?

I docked my 5G 60GB iPod in its new Universal Dock for the first time, and, just for fun, started playing with the Click Wheel while it was playing...and promptly balsted my eardrums out. It seems that you can now control the line-out volume with the wheel- and it's a separate control than the actual headphones- when I undocked it, the volume was at a different level.

I don't seem to remember my 4G doing this...is this a new feature, or am I just dense?

I read this somewhere else, apparently the 5G has "real" line out. All the other ones just had an un-amplified line out.
