Just opened and connected a new ipod, but it doesn't show up in itunes, it pretty much just mounts on the desktop as an external HD.

iPod New 60 GB ipod video, doesn't show up in iTunes

That happenned to me the first time, too. I didn't know why. But after that it worked well except it takes a lot longer for iTunes to recognize the 5G iPod, than the older iPods its wierd.
With it mounted on the desktop try quiting iTunes and restarting it. Sometimes my 4G iPod does the same and that normally works for me.
