With on-disk encryption (don't know if it'll be supported under OS X, though). 2011Q1.

It's in the article:

When it comes to Mac compatiblity, however, a Hitachi FAQ says, "Bulk Data Encryption (BDE) is independent of OS so that a BDE hard drive can be used on an Apple Macintosh system. However, because Apple systems do not support the ATA security feature set, a BDE drive will function only as a standard drive in an Apple system."

;) That is cool though.

I've never had a Hitachi drive fail, but I have had 3 of 5 Western Digital drives fail. Why do you think Hitachi's are "crap"?

I have. But mostly those crap Hitachi DVD drives that came in the PS2, XBOX1, XBOX 360 and other consoles. I mod them and Hitachi was the worst you could get. Disc read errors like crazy after minimum use.

Which is irrelevant really. Nobody is trying to get your purchase approval here.

The technology of on-board encryption, regardless of manufacturer is a great addition.

I know you're not. I'll just wait for other manufacturers implement this.
