Apple's second-generation AirPods Pro launch this Friday with many new features, including improved audio quality, longer battery life, up to 2x as much active noise cancellation, Find My support for the charging case, an extra small ear tip option, the ability to swipe up and down on the stem to adjust volume, and more.

Ahead of launching, the new AirPods Pro are now facing a 2-3 week shipping delay on Apple's online store in the U.S. and Canada. Availability varies in other countries, with the AirPods Pro facing a shorter 4-6 business day shipping delay in Australia and still available for September 23 launch day delivery in the U.K.

The second-generation AirPods Pro had remained available for September 23 launch day delivery in the U.S. for several days after pre-orders began.

The new AirPods Pro are priced at $249 in the United States. For more details about new features and changes, read our announcement coverage.

The first reviews of the new AirPods Pro are expected later this week.

I ordered from Best Buy on the 9th while the product page says the 23rd the order page says

"A release date for your pre-order has not been announced. We'll let you know when it's ready."

Best Buy does this with all preorders they'll say the release date on the product page but that doesn't mean you'll get it that day it also doesn't mean you won't get it that day.

Good thing is I planned on waiting for a BF deal or something anyway. My gen 1s are OK for now, though I absolutely plan on upgrading as soon as I see them under $200.

I was at the Apple store yesterday returning one of the two phones that were delivered (error on order day resulted in two orders). They had a huge stack of AirPods Pro on the counter they were selling. They all had $249 prices on them and I was confused so I checked and the package had a 2021 date on them. I really disliked that they were trying to sell them at full price to customers unaware in the store.

Order on Costco if you are a member. It's less expensive than on Apple's site with a much better return policy.

Apple rarely ever discounts their products in their own store.... As a consumer people should do a tiny bit of research before buying something... 30 seconds typing in "airpods pro" in a search engine will not only yield a ton of articles letting you know the new ones are coming 9/23.... But also a list of places to buy the current gen at a cheaper price. If people blindly pay for something without doing the least bit of research then that's on them.

Many third party sites that sell apple products as well didn't update the pricing on the gen 1 airpods and continued to sell old inventory to customers after the announced airpods. I know a few people who got caught up when ordering their phones and got the old ones delivered "early" and I had to tell them they weren't the new ones.

I know they rarely discount them, but they also rarely continue to sell old products after the announced new ones. They usually take them out of inventory in the store. It's not a good customer experience. Also, I think you think too highly of customers. While it only takes a few moments to "research," customers trust apple to an extent to do the right thing, and to me this wasn't good.

That’s an interesting take. I think it‘s fair to say that Apple continues to sell old/prior generation products most of the time. There’s a limit, of course, but they’ll often keep those items around for a decent amount of time at a slightly lower price.

Mostly I agree, Apple store stock seems to be there for convenience for people who don’t care about saving money and just want it right now.

However I don’t think they should be selling the discontinued model, prominently, at full price.

Is it officially discontinued though? I'm not sure how it works with accessories.. Whether they officially discontinue it after the announcement or on release date.

*edit* Now that I think about it I guess it would be after the announcement since people can order the new ones online right?

I may cancel my order to get one with engraving, but I’m not sure yet. Seeing they’ve slipped a few weeks isn’t a huge deal to me.

Not true. When you pre order and it says get it on release day. You are definitely getting it on release day. BB has never let me down yet. If it says other wise like you. Not happening and you pre ordered to late for launch day delivery.

Yes, at the lower cost though, and I think that was the difference.

I guess that’s true, if they’re not technically available yet. Still seems kind of shady to advertise them so prominently to get rid of old stock. Any other company would sell the old ones at clearance and make sure people knew they were the old version.

But not under Tim “let’s sell Apple Watch 3 up until the second it’s obsolete” Cook.
